New Exhibit: The Discovery Zone
There’s a new reason to explore Narrandera, and it’s unlike anything you’ve seen before. The Discovery Zone, the latest interactive exhibit at the Destination and Discovery Hub, has officially opened, offering visitors a fresh, immersive way to connect with the region’s culture, history, and environment. Combining storytelling, technology, and creativity, this innovative space is designed to captivate, inspire and invite curiosity for all ages.
The walls of the Discovery Zone hum with stories: Wiradjuri culture, local talent, and the living science of the river all intertwine as you explore. Step into a Wiradjuri fish trap beneath the Murrumbidgee River, where sound, like and moving imagery reveal the ancient knowledge, practices, and enduring connection of the Wiradjuri people to the river. On the other side, see how science and conservation safeguard the river and its wildlife today. Both perspectives feature local voices and talent, grounding the experience firmly in the community.
Narrandera’s Big Playable Guitar has long been a favourite stop for travellers. The iconic instrument is now paired with a creative lightshow and specialled composed song by Dr Joe Romeo. Visitors can strum, tap, and experiment on the guitar, creating a delightful sensory experience.
The Discovery Zone is designed to be more than just an exhibit — it’s an invitation to engage, play and learn in a way that’s uniquely immersive. Families can explore together, school groups can bring lessons to life, and solo travellers can find inspiration around every corner. The combination of interactive installations, cultural storytelling, and creative play ensures there’s something for everyone, whether you’re looking to spark curiosity, have fun, or simply soak in the atmosphere.
