During your visit, enjoy a tour of the aquarium room where you can meet Agro and other fascinating native and introduced species.
Opened in 1962, it began as a research hub to study the breeding biology and ecology of inland aquatic ecosystems. Today, it stands as a leading freshwater fisheries research facility in New South Wales and has evolved into a thriving hatchery. The Centre provides fingerlings for four native fish species — Murray cod, trout cod, golden perch and silver perch — to help boost both recreational fisheries and conservation efforts. The Centre is also at the forefront of scientific research into all 36 fish species in the Murray-Darling Basin from well-known Murray cod and golden perch to endangered species like the purple spotted gudgeon.
Take a seat in the theatrette to learn about the centre’s history, then explore the Touch Pool for an up-close experience. Afterward, relax with a picnic or barbecue under the shade of the eucalypts in the grounds.
