HERITAGE

WRECK OF THE PS WAGGA WAGGA
Once a busy paddle steamer that transported goods up and down the Murrumbidgee River now lies as a wreck in the river bed. From a viewing platform the wreck can be seen when the river level is low.  A viewing platform is located approx 2.5kms along Lizard Drive.  Follow the unsealed road and continue through gateway opening.

HISTORIC CEMETERY SITE AND WALK
The original Narrandera Cemetery is found within the grounds of the Narrandera Forestry Centre. The small graveyard contains the remains of Narrandera's first "doctor" Dr Trollope and was part of the original Narrandera Run, owned by the ruthless Edward Flood (learn more about both these characters at the Narrandera Visitor Information Centre).
Pick up the ‘mud map’ and take a self-guided tour of Narrandera Cemetery. Read of wartime tragedy, conquering landowners and murder victims.

PARKSIDE COTTAGE MUSEUM
The Museum houses some very significant items, each telling a story of Australia. Of note is the MacArthur Cloak which is made from early Merino wool taken from the first bale of wool sent back to England by Governor MacArthur. Early Riverboat trade on the Murrumbidgee is represented by the navigation maps of Captain T Bynon. Opening Hours: Mon & Tues 2pm and to 5pm Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 5pm Entry: Adult $2 Seniors $1 Children .50c . Phone 02 69591372

KIESLING'S LANE HERITAGE WALK
A short pedestrian laneway in the main street just off the raised pedestrian crossing near the pharmacy.  The story of Narrandera's development is told on a series of storyboards and images on the wall.

TIGER MOTH MEMORIAL
The Tiger Moth is the focal point of a memorial for those who trained at Narrandera's No 8 EFTS (Elementary Flight Training School) during the Second World War. The memorial is housed in a building adjacent to the Visitor Information Centre in Narrandera Park. The display features the DH 82 Tiger Moth, a comprehensive collection of model airplanes and a range of photographic memorabilia relating to the training school at Narrandera. Opening Hours: 9 to 5pm Monday to Saturday, 10am to 2pm on Sundays:  Donation appreciated.

MEMORIAL GARDENS
The Memorial Gardens off East St, Narrandera feature a ceramic Royal Doulton Fountain which was presented to the people of Narrandera by Alderman and Mrs. Hankinson in 1922 in honour of those who served in the First World War. This is one of two such fountains in the world, with the other one found in the City of Karachi, Pakistan. The Memorial Gardens host the annual Anzac Day Services.

BARELLAN - BARELLAN MUSEUM
This little community boasts some excellent attractions such as the Barellan Museum, which has numerous historical items that relate to Barellan's rich history. This town is well worth a stop to embrace the real spirit of a country village. Barellan is close to the Newell Highway and Burley Griffin Way and just 56km from Narrandera.

BARELLAN'S BIG TENNIS RACQUET
Local Barellan farmer, David Irvin, was the driving force behind the construction of a 13.8 metre-long Big Tennis Racquet which stands boldly in the main street. The racquet was made to celebrate the 100th year of Barellan and its proud association with Evonne Goolagong. The Dunlop racquet is a scale wooden replica with Evonne’s autograph. Evonne Goolagong grew up and learnt to play tennis in Barellan.  The hitting wall where she used to practice still remains.
